Art showz

Howdee kids, it's time for some art showz!

First up is February 6th 2010, which is this Saturday. The art is by sculptor Evi Ellias, you can check out her cool shit here ---> http://www.evitaz.com/ She has made a giant Guess Who? board game and I am one of the artists painting three identical portraits for the piece. Exciting. Come out for a night of drinks, hot chicks, and a giant board game. It's a win-win, seriously.

GUESS WHO?

Second up is "Fatal Attraction" at Clubsix Gallery on February 13 2010. So if you don't have a date for valentine's but have been trying to find a cool event to take that lady friend you've been in love with, stop by. There will be cool music, cool art, and probably weird people.

FATAL ATTRACTION

Look at all those damn communists.

Part 2

So we walk in through the double doors and it's a sea of women. Most of the guys in the club look like they're from out of town, but what is shocking is that for the most part, the girls are foxy. All decked out in ho gear and all of them checking us out. Weird.

We head straight to the bar and load up with a few rounds. We take a tour of the place, nothing special, a nice deck patio, and a center stage with polls being molested by girls. It was a little bit like being at a Vegas strip club, just without the tits. We take a seat overlooking the stage and watch while a girl does the splits onstage while being facefucked by another girl straddling her head. We head back to the bar after a few more minutes and strike up a conversation with two girls by the bar. Nick starts in on the first one and I talk to her friend and she is about as stunning a girl as I have ever seen.

She was thin with big doey eyes, her hair pulled back into a bun. She was wearing a red evening gown, stilettos, clutching a Louis bag, and a Chanel watch. High maintenance popped into mind.

"Where are you from?"

"San Francisco."

"You?"

"(some shitty little village). How long are you and your friend staying for?"

"Two weeks, we leave New Years Day."

"What are you guys planning on doing?"

"No plans, we're just kind of going with the flow."

We chat some more, but it's a little hard since of the whole language thing and I look over at Nick and I can tell that his conversation is not going anywhere also. We say bye to the girls and watching her leave was just about as nice as talking to her.

After the girls take off we head back for some more stage watching. I happen to strike up a conversation with an ex-pat named Rick who sits down next to us with his entourage which is basically all chicks. I didn't think he would mind sharing that much. Turns out he moved out to Bangkok from Seattle years back and never had the mind to move back. He is somewhat of a local celebrity and plays lead guitar for a band at some big hotel downtown. Now it's understandable why he's got some many ladies.

"Who's that girl in the white?"

"Who her?" Rick turns and points to the girl in a white tubetop which is spilling at the brim. She had beautiful shoulder length hair and batted eyes at me. "She's a model, she's 30 though."

"So what would you say the percentage of working class girls are in here?"

"What right now?"

"Yeah."

"I dunno, probably 80%"

"So how can you tell?"

"Well, mostly by what they ask you. Usually it's where you're from and how long you're staying. Some guys, they're pretty fucking stupid, they meet these girls and they fall in love. Sometimes they'll even ship money in from overseas. And for the most part, these girls don't care, they're just trying to have fun, make a few dollars, it's just a game to them."

I introduce Rick to Nick and they strike it up too and start talking to some of the girls. They're fun and drunk and flirty, but once again the whole language thing is odd. One of the girls "accidently" spills her drink on my lap and she immediately apologizes and the chick in the white tubetop also comes over and they start patting my crotch with fistfuls of napkins. Okay then, so I just roll with it.

"You gotta help me fuck these girls man" Nick whispers in my ear. He grabs the girl closest to him and basically flings her on me. She grabs me from behind, starts massaging my shoulders and makes her way down my stomach and grabs my cock. So much for introductions. Rick's friend Mikey shows up and we keep drinking and Mikey tells me "I'm just like Tiger Woods man, half black, half thai, and I fuck a lot of chicks.

We keep steadily drinking, but we pretty much hit the limit and tell Rick that we'll meet him up tomorrow night. I like hooking up just as much as the next man, but I don't like having the idea of my penis falling off.

We head back outside and Nick reminds me to grab my knife and we decide to walk back home, even though we basically have no idea where we're going.

We stop by a food stall selling grilled meats and sticky rice. We get some. At some point Nick stops to pee on the street, I spot half a watermelon on the ground (uneaten) and I throw it at him. I laugh. We keep walking and walking but get so lost and that we have to hop a tuk tuk. We get dropped off at a street market that has just opened up for the days work and we walk through aisles of meat, produce, and seafood, most of the stuff still alive. Nick gets hungry again so he goes to bye a sausage with sticky rice before we walk home.About half way through the sausage he turns and looks at me.

"Dude, I think this shit is still raw." He hands the sausage over to me. It is charred on the outside but the inside is still pink with large hunks of uncooked garlic.

"Fuck."

We keep walking back to his aunt's house and on the way we stop by another food stall. This time, chicken liver kabob's. I feel like Nick still hasn't really learned his lesson yet, so I don't say nothing. We walk back home exhausted as the sun starts to come up.

Look at that fucking whore

Part 1

My last final was suppose to be on December 18th but I talked my professor Brandon into letting me go a day earlier since I had a flight to catch on the 17th. He is one cool cat, you can check out his awesome shit here ---> http://www.brandonsmithpaintings.com/.

Before hitting my midnight flight I swallowed about three quarters of a fifth whilst taking bong rips with my pollack buddy before hitting the airport. Thank god I was pretty out of it because next to me were two toddlers. Why their parents decided to leave them unattended while they sat a row in front is still a little perplexing. I was in center row left side aisle seat, the two kids in the two middle seats and a cute chick on the right side aisle. I would have tried to strike up some type of conversation and gotten rejected, but I would have had to compete with the screaming and the bong rips were making my eyelids pretty heavy. I probably saved myself some embarrasment and 14 hours worth of awkwardness.

I wake up with about 6 hours left and bust out some books. I had a layover in Taipei for about 3 hours which I was looking forward to because the nicotine habit was kicking in pretty hard. I was dissapointed upon arrival to find out that Taipei had fully implemented a "no smoking" policy in all buildings and facilities. Fucking bullshit. Thank god I brought a tin of chew.

I transfer flights around 7am Taiwan time and have a 3 hour flight to Bangkok international. I'm meeting Nick up in Bangkok, but his flight doesn't get in until 11pm at night and I arrive at 12. His aunt picks me up from the airport at 12:30 chaeuffer style, like a boss and we head to downtown Bangkok. She takes me to a pretty swank restaurant and orders about double amount of food I can stuff into my face.

"Try the papaya salad, it is the best. But be careful with the little green peppers, we call them 'mouse tails' "

I look at the pepper and it's more cute than intimadating. I pop it in my mouth and chew, she wasn't kidding, it packed a little bit of a kick. She giggled while I asked the waiter to refill my ice water. After lunch we drive cross town to her condo. I get an entire bedroom to myself. The view wasn't too shabby either.

No sharing beds on this trip since I'm a big boy now. I set up shop and waste some time checking email. I get a little of cabin fever and tell Nick's auntie that I'm gonna take a stroll outside for a few hours.

"Do you think you'll be able to find your way back?"

I shake my head yes and say that I think I can handle it. The streets are littered with people getting off of work and the traffic is bumper to bumper, albeit on the wrong side of the road. I stumble into a large park and watch kids play basketball and skateboard. It is hot as hell and I have no idea how anybody can stand the heat despite it being winter and I wonder how much worse it could get during the summer. I'm only sitting and I'm sweating.

I get back around dinner time and the meal is almost prepared. I don't have to lift a finger and I feel a little bit like a prince. Nick's aunt has got be the most gracious host ever, the only other time I've ever met her was a year ago when I stayed at his grandma's condo in Taipei and only for like 2 hours because we didn't get back until 8 in the morning from a night of debauchery. I guess she's not the judging type.

After dinner we watch a movie and she calls the driver so we can head to the airport to pick up Nick. His flight lands on time and we get back into the car.

"Do you think you can handle going out right now?" I look at the clock and it's already 12:30am.

"Fuck yeah."

"You want to shower or anything?"

"Nah, it's cool, I've got deoderant."

And that is why I love travelling with this motherfucker. All rules fly out the window including cleanliness. We get back to the condo around 1, drop off his shit, and we're out the door by 1:30.

"What time are you guys going to be coming back home?" Nick shrugs and his aunt sighs. "You are naughty boys."

Naughty isn't exactly the right word, but it's close enough. We head to the closest 7 11 and get ready for some heavy pre drinking, only to find out that they have stopped selling alcohol at 2am. I thought that Bangkok was a no-holds barred party town. Oh, how little I knew then.

We hop a cab and Nick asks the driver about a popular bar that he's been to before. Thank god he knows a little bit of Thai and we aren't getting royaly screwed by cabbies. The driver says that Soi Cowboy is already closed, but that he'll take us to another club called "Bossy" that is open until 6am. Sounds like a plan.

We pull up to Bossy and there are tons of foreigners and tons a skanky looking girls. Mini skirts, stilettos, fuck me boots, push up bras, hair did and I look over at Nick and his jaw is just as low as mine. I notice that they're actually patting people down at the door so we go around the corner and I throw my knife into a planter pot.

"Don't let me forget that thing."

We pay the entrance fee and get patted down and the doorman opens up the front door. What we are greeted with I probably won't ever experience again.

happy 2010

dude, for like the two to three people that might possibly check this regularly I'm sorry for the long ass hiatus. It's not that I don't care, but life gets crazy sometimes, but you know that I will always love you girl.

So looking at the last post, it has been about two months. Since then a lot of shit has gone down. After rapping up classes at the Academy on Dec. 17th I said my goodbyes and flew my ass to Bangkok airport from SFO with a stop in Taipei. Bangkok was hot as balls. Mind you it is winter time with a moderate temperature averaging 88.

Stops on the tour included Bangkok, Changmai, Phuket, and the Pi Pi Islands. Due only to time constraints I had to return to Taiwan on January 1st New Years day where I still am right now. If it were up to me I could have set up shop in Phuket and spent about another week there. $3 meals and pharmacies selling eveyrthing without doctor approved prescriptions are the shit.
It's 4:44am and I should really be getting my ass to bed, there will be many many stories to come including, but not limited to:

- how to spot a whore (not the deragatory term, but an actual working class girl)

- that one time i wrecked on a scooter and left half the skin of my arms on the pavement.

- why i will never self-prescribe barbituates again.

Other than that, things are fucking terrfic. This vacation like every other one, has been the best and worst experiences of my young life. Right now I am just a little done with vacation and want to get back to the studio and maybe put up one or two more pieces before I head back stateside.

For you art lovers: Things will start rolling and I will be in two shows in February. One at Goforaloop Gallery and the other at ClubSix Gallery. Dates, times, and all that other good shit TBA.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

I was up in Seattle for the first time this past weekend. It was beautiful.

Loved the skylines, the crisp wind, and intermittent drizzles. Stuffed my face and drank too much.

When people ask me what I paint, I usually say figures (naked chicks) and graffiti shit. It's just the things that have always interested me and have influenced me greatly. I met an older artist awhile back and asked his advice on where to take my career. "Well, naked chicks usually sell the best, but you'll never make it into a museum." Which I took a little bit to be a jab at my choice of subjects and my own career. I was offended at the time and thought it a little demeaning for him to so bluntly curtail my work. I kind of wanted to punch him in the face.

Now that I've had a little time to think about the situation I come to realize that maybe he is right. That maybe I'm still just a immature young boy with no direction and no cause. Still just a rebel without a cause, yelling, ranting, and fighting against something which is not there, an outline of an invisible apparition.

stolen artwork

Someone has stolen artwork from me. Two pieces to be exact. Back in middle school through part of college, I would steal almost anything that could fit into my pockets or neatly tucked into the waistband of my pants. I must've accumulated thousands of dollars of worthless shit from all types of stores. I never stole from anyone personally, mostly it was just in large conglomerates and the like.

It was all pretty petty type shit until college, when I couldn't quite afford to purchase all my books that I started going to the book store and lifting as many class required reading materials as my grubby hands could hold. It was into the second quarter of my freshmen year that I got caught. It was quite a shock to be caught, cuffed, and booked. I spent a few hours in jail and got the charges dismissed in court since I had no prior record and looked the part of a nice, smart, respectable, young boy.

In a way, it is a little bit flattering that anyone would go through any lengths to procure a piece of mine, it must mean that they really like it. But, it still pisses me off.

The following are the two pieces which have been stolen:

stuck in a tree, 2 48x24 wood panels, mixed media

marilyn, 9 x 12, framed, water color

If anyone ever sees either of these two pieces please let me know. I will find the perpetrator and deliver them sweet fists of justice all up in their shit.

the mother fucking bad news bears

So it looks like we might be going winless for the season or as my Filipino friend would say, "the motherfucking bad news bears." I have never been shut out in anything I have ever done; during middle school, we had a free throw shooting contest during a rainy day in the gymnasium and I at least hit one of five, just to save face. Sometimes, I wonder if I could have done anything else to have saved the season, been a better coach, yelled louder, made them sprint faster, run more drills, anything, just to maybe have gone that extra distance. But, these are just doubts.
